JasonJones asks: Isn't it immoral that the livestock population of the United States eats well enough to feed the world's human population several times over?? Think about it. The cows eat better than people. Isn't that the nekuda of immorality?
My answer is a resounding NO. That there are poor people and rich people in the world is not a nekuda of immorality. That the poorest in a rich country (or its animals) do better than the richest in a poor country does not bother me. Especially in a case where there is no reasonable way to help the poor types. (10,000 more people eating veggie burgers will not help the African continent one iota.)
As to your other points, as I saidL I'll address them in later blogs.
Is there a movie Christopher Walken will NOT be starring in this year?
Pop quiz:
Can any of you see the irony in this story?
Montreal man sentenced to one year in jail for forcing miscarriage
And are any of you who are familiar with Canadian culture surprised that there is no mention of the irony in the story itself? Any US news company (not only Fox News) would have mentioned the irony no later than the end of the first paragraph.
Sick world...
Now I am not a big fan of Dr Laura, especially after she so callously and bitterly rejected Yiddishkeit, but someone sent me a transcript of something she said and I have to say I agree 100%.
Here it is:
"I may be the only human being in the United States
of America who never watched one episode of 'Friends', who never
watched one episode of 'Sex in the City'. Nonetheless, I heard enough
about both of them to realize that they have done SEVERE damage to our
culture. I am nauseated to understand there are people emotionally
attached to these creatures on these shows and who CARE that they're
not gonna be on the screen anymore."
"These shows, like 'Friends' and 'Sex in the City' tell a lie. And the lie is, that women reallydon't care. They can DO men left and right, make babies, you never
see them on the next three episodes, and the babies never stop these
women from lookin' good, and getting on with their uncommitted sex
lives."
"Now, since the
woman's movement told woman that they should go for an orgasm a day,
doesn't matter with whom, they're entitled to their sexual pleasure.
Women have been acting badly. Hooking up. Shacking up. And they've
been hurting."
"I'm pretty sad that 'Sex in the City' and
'Friends' were even on the air."
irresponsible
1. Marked by a lack of responsibility:
2. Lacking a sense of responsibility; unreliable or untrustworthy.
This may sound critical.
It disappoints me to see what people who received between 13 and 18 years of Jewish education care about in their adult lives. I know that as a rabbi, my thoughts and concerns are more focused on Yiddishkeit than people in other professions.
But what excuse is there when they don't think about it at all. It's chic to blame the Jewish school system. But what about expecting more of the people. It's impossible to ask "What makes you prouder? That your son wears tzitzis or that he plays baseball." or "When was the last time you opened a sefer?" It's impossible because people would take offense. But it's still on my mind...
